EPISODE 33 TRANSCRIPT:
DOING A LIFE AUDIT
WELCOME TO THIS EPISODE WHICH IS ALL ABOUT DOING A LIFE AUDIT
Welcome to this episode which is a mini pep talk episode about DOING A LIFE AUDIT.
So this is the third mini pep talk episode I am doing in the lead up to the New Year I will be recording shorter pep talk episodes as I know this time of the year is busy and that way it will be easier for you to consume shorter episodes.
And this is actually the perfect time to cover this topic of doing a life audit which is an important task that I do in my own life usually twice a year – June and December just to make sure I am staying on track.
So let’s start with having a conversation about why I recommend doing a life audit on a regular basis, at the very least once a year.
Now I actually have a course called The Ultimate Life Audit Plan that will enable you to do a quick but very in-depth audit of your life.
Doing this life audit will force you to step back and take a comprehensive HONEST look at your life from a bird’s eye view (as opposed to trying to make sense of it when you are stressed and deep in the trenches – impossible to do from there!).
It requires you to ask yourself the following strategic questions:
WHERE AM I NOW?
WHERE DO I WANT TO GO IN MY LIFE? and
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET TO MY BIG GOAL?
Sometimes a lot of us are much like ducks – looking calm on the water, while beneath the surface our feet are paddling like crazy to stay afloat.
Doing a life audit will help you effectively analyse what is and isn’t working in your life and devise a new strategy designed to help you achieve your life goals.
A life audit is when you step back and evaluate everything you have achieved with your life so far – in all the different areas of your life – and work out what you need to do to achieve the long-term results you are after.
And the cool thing about doing a life audit at this time of the year is that it is easier to reflect back on the last 12 months and sort of see the progress you have made over during that time.
Like for me personally I have achieved so much since last December.
As many of you know I have a pretty successful parenting website called Inspiring Life Dreams that actually won a best parenting blog award in 2019.
It has continued to grow in 2020 but this year I also launched three new websites back in March, one of which was DreamBigMyFriend.
I also launched this podcast at the end of May 2020 which was like a birthday gift to myself.
It’s funny how to remember that whenever my family would ask what I wanted for my birthday which is on May 30, I would say a podcast so I needed to make that happen myself and I literally launched it in 10 days from that simple decision to make it happen.
This year I also created another 10 courses.
I launched two more websites last month, one of which is my FrancesVidakovic.com site which is sort of a portal to everything that I do in my business.
There were so many other wins for me and this all is a result of me doing it on my own, with zero outside business help, as a mom of two kids and one with special needs.
And of course when you do a life audit you don’t necessarily focus on work alone.
I tracked the changes and progress in my life is all the major areas which include:
✔ Fitness | Health | Well-Being
✔ Family | Significant Other
✔ Friends | Social Life
✔ Career | Business
✔ Money | Finances
✔ Personal | Spiritual Growth
✔ Home Environment
✔ Creativity | Hobbies | Fun
So I really recommend taking the time to do a life audit yourself now that we are coming to the end of the year – or really if you are catching this episode later – it is honestly a valuable exercise at any point to do.
I have a tool to help you do this that you can find on DreamBigMyFriend.com but you can also just pull out a blank notebook and some pens and get to work at tracking your progress.
Remember a little progress each day over the course of a year adds up to big results.
My favorite questions to ask myself during a life audit is: what is currently working for me?
What do I need to stop doing and what do I need to start doing?
And more importantly, how have I changed over the last 12 months?
Am I moving in the right direction?
So I thought I would share with you a little snippet from the guide that you can find within THE ULTIMATE LIFE AUDIT PLAN and it goes like this:
IMAGINE YOUR LIFE AS IF IT’S A CAR
Your body which encases your mind and soul is much like a vehicle you are driving through life.
You are in the driver’s seat.
You get to decide where you want to take this baby.
You get to decide if you want to go fast or slow, or go left or right.
You get to decide when to start and when to stop.
Most importantly, you get to decide the direction you want to go and DESTINATION, all the while remembering that the journey you take while driving that car ALSO COUNTS.
While you are driving to your destination, remember to play your music loud, sing along to your favorite songs and enjoy that amazing ride.
Look out of the window and appreciate all the things that you are passing by.
Doing a life audit is like getting your car serviced which we want to do to keep our vehicles running smoothly and ensure we get the most out of them without running them to the ground.
With a car, you make sure you regularly refuel your tank, change the engine oil and check the air pressure in your tires, right?
We automatically spritz our windows with wiper fluid too so we can see outside properly.
Because those little things, if missed, and consistent neglect might eventually lead to bigger tweaks like an engine dying on you or a flat tire that stops you in your tracks.
Doing your first life audit is like a tow truck pulling you out from a ditch.
After that, regular life audits will be like the mechanic who services your car (aka your life) on a regular basis.
Or to be honest, I am teaching YOU to be the mechanic so that you know how to make improvements or adjustments in your life.
You have only one life to live (and one car to drive according to my metaphor) so I want to make sure your vehicle is taking you exactly where you WANT to go.
You don’t want to look back at your time spent on Earth and be filled with a sense of regret because that car was kept in the garage, never driven or broken down and never repaired, even though it only needed a few simple adjustments to get it back on the road.
If your life doesn’t look exactly like you envisioned it would, I have your envisioned it would, I have your back.
I will always – ALWAYS – be here standing in your corner, cheering you from afar from my side of the world my friend (from Sydney Australia to be exact).
The first step is acknowledging that you want to take care of your car – that is YOU, INSIDE AND OUT.
The second is step is ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING ANY NECESSARY CHANGES YOURSELF AND FOR DECIDING WHICH DIRECTION YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR CAR.
What is your final destination and are you steering your car in the right direction?
Once again you are responsible for your life journey my friend.
Your dreams won’t just fall into your lap.
People aren’t going to just HAND YOU the changes you want to see in your life.
You will need to get up and do the work!
Have you ever heard the saying:
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten?
I heard this back when I was a teenager and I remember feeling jolted to the core at the amount of wisdom jam-packed into that one sentence.
Let me repeat it for you one more time:
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten.
What this means is that for things to change YOU need to change first.
You will need to do things differently to achieve a different result. Pretty obvious right?
But many of us get stuck in a rut, going through the same motions in our day, thinking about and knowing that we want different areas in our life to improve in big and small ways, but never actually taking the action to make that happen.
[It honestly feels like we ARE stuck in mud, planted to the same spot with super glue.]
Much like a car bogged in a ditch, we feel like we need a tow truck to get us out of this crappy mess.
Consider doing a life audit to be like a tow truck coming to your rescue.
You need a helping hand and I am here to give you a rope, attach it to your vehicle, pull you up and out and GET YOU BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
You just need a good game-plan and doing a life audit will help provide you with one.
You make changes by paying attention to your life.
You get there because you make a conscious decision to ensure every different component of your life is in good working order. If something isn’t right, you gently take care of it, guide it and nurture it back to life.
SIMPLY BE AWARE.
It is good practice to know what your long term goals are and what habits and actions you need to embrace to get your car moving in the right direction and which habits, thoughts and actions you need to let go of as they are holding you back.
So I hope this episode has been useful to you.
I definitely encourage you to do a life audit especially as we come to the end of the year and if you need more help simply visit DreamBigMyFriend.com where I have the perfect tools to help you achieve your goals.
Until next time take care. I love and appreciate you all and keep on dreaming big my friend.
