INSPIRING LIFE SCHOOL PODCAST
EPISODE 40 TRANSCRIPT:
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO KEEP CRAPPY FRIENDS
Here I will be sharing with you a chapter from my book WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND? 50 Truth Bombs to Change Your Life.
The lessons from this book also form the backbone for my MINDFUL LIVING MASTER COURSE.
But today I am sharing with you a free chapter today because I believe so strongly that this is information that every person in this world would benefit from learning.
This book WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND is different from all the other personal development books.
It focuses less on “what you need to DO or CHANGE” to make your life super fabulous and more on “what you need to UNDERSTAND” to make your life more manageable and special.
If you find that you are always fighting things rather than living in peace and going with the flow, this book will highlight 50 truth bombs that you need to understand to free yourself from that constant pain, suffering and torment cycle.
This book is the wake-up call you desperately need.
To live well and have more clarity and understanding in our life, we really need to embrace these truth bombs.
So are you ready now to change your life?
Are you ready now to understand?
So here goes: the lesson or chapter today is called:
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO KEEP CRAPPY FRIENDS
When we’re young we don’t think too much about whom our friends are – we’re happy to play with anyone with a good toy collection or imagination.
But as we get older, we become pickier and choose our own friends, who typically share similar interests or beliefs and provide us with emotional support and guidance.
Unfortunately, we don’t always pick right and over time we recognize that some of our relationships are rather toxic. Trust me – we have all made this mistake from time to time.
A toxic relationship is one that causes you more pain than happiness.
These “frenemies” are people who make you feel bad about yourself.
They put you down, manipulate you and exclude you – sometimes subtly so other people don’t notice but it’s something you feel strongly inside.
Some of us have probably made excuses for these “friends” numerous times – like “they don’t mean to be rude”, “they are like that to everyone”, and “deep down they are really nice inside.”
Let me tell you now – those excuses are only serving to keep you in crappy relationships with friends and family – relationships you would be better off not having.
Imagine what it would be like to set yourself free from this toxicity?
You keep telling yourself this story because let’s face it – it feels even more uncomfortable to imagine standing up to these toxic friends.
You think – it is what it is.
It’s not so bad.
I mean, what else can you do to protect yourself from feeling insecure and unconfident because you made a few bad choices in your core friend and family selection?
Then one day this truth bomb goes off – life is simply too short to keep these crappy friends. If a person insists on causing you grief YOU NEED TO LET HIM OR HER GO.
There’s nothing wrong with moving on from one friendship circle to another if you feel like your old friends don’t have the same values and interests as you anymore.
It’s fine to make new friends, especially if they bring out the best in you.
It’s also fine to not spend time with close family that make you feel like total crap.
Yes, you can ditch or loosen your close ties with family!
It doesn’t mean you aren’t family anymore.
It doesn’t make you a bad person to refuse to allow yourself to be treated like a doormat or punching bag.
Instead, it means you are putting yourself first for a change – your feelings, your health, your life and sanity.
At any rate you will soon realize it is less important to have more friends and more important to have real ones.
In life we never lose friends, we only learn who our true friends are.
The biggest mistake we make in our lives is letting bad friends stay in our life for far longer than they deserve to be in it.
So respect yourself enough to walk away from anyone or anything that no longer serves you, helps you grow or makes you happy.
When this truth bomb goes off, listen to it!
There are people out there who sincerely don’t want to see other individuals happy so if you have a friend or family member like this, the time to loosen the ties and the grip they have on your life is now.
Today and not tomorrow. Now and not later.
So, I hope you found this mini episode to be helpful.
