EPISODE 26

TRANSCRIPT: BUT I WANT IT NOW!

WELCOME TO THIS EPISODE WHICH IS ALL ABOUT WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE IMPATIENT AND WANT THINGS RIGHT NOW

So in this episode I will be sharing with you an issue I faced in my own life recently and how I coached myself through it until I got to a point where I was feeling comfortable with that feeling of not reaching some of my bigger massive goals like yesterday.

So this episode will be a lot more personal as I delve into talking about my personal goals but I hope that is okay.

So I’m not sure whether you have ever experienced this feeling of impatience yourself but just to set the scene I started three new blogs back in March 2020 with the intention of generating massive traffic to each before the end of the year.

My parenting website is inspiringmomlife which I have built to the point where it generates around 150,000 pageviews each month with ease and I love, love serving my people over there.

But I really wanted to build some new websites where I could talk about all the other things I am really passionate about such as personal development, blogging and money stuff and health and well-being for moms.

But as the year went on lots of other things happened that seemed to take me down another more exciting path in my business.

I started this podcast.

I was in a mastermind for three months which took up all of my time and attention.

I created so many new products and courses which once again required all of my focus and energy.

These were things that I hadn’t planned for but came up over the course of the year and which I gave priority to over working on building my three new blogs which are dreambigmyfriend, mamalovesmoney and superhealthymama.

Even my main parenting website inspiringlifedreams sort of fell to the wayside as I focused on what I felt was the next right step for me to take in my business.

But then November rolled around and when I revisited my initial 2020 goals which was to grow three new niche blogs I discovered that even though I had achieved so many amazing things this year, I had really neglected these new websites and there were only two months left of this year to achieve these big goals of mine.

So I wanted to share with you the process I went through myself when it came to coming to a sense of peace with this situation and how I shifted what I thought was a negative situation into something positive.

The first thing I had to ask myself was WHY NOT SHIFT THE TIMELINE?

There was no one putting the pressure on me to reach this goal before the end of 2020 except me.

Thinking that I HAD to achieve it in the next two months – when I already knew that my plate was full with other more important business tasks that were demanding my attention were generating thoughts of stress for me.

But I could shift that thought.

I had the power to change it.

I could acknowledge all the amazing things I had achieved this year that I hadn’t expected to achieve and shift that goal over to 2021 instead.

And why not do that?

I think it’s important for people to understand that yes sometimes your goals or priorities may change or sometimes the timeline for your goals can change too like it was in this situation for me.

I still love and am excited about building those three new websites but there’s no reason why it needs to be done today.

I had to ask myself: Why the rush? And actually really take a deep look at my answer to that question.

And when I did do that I realised there is no rush.

I could remove that pressure from myself and have faith that everything is happening the exact way that it is supposed to be happening in my life and business today.

The thought “I will achieve that big goal of mine instead in 2021” gave me a sense of peace whereas thinking I had to do it right now made me feel anxious and stressful and was putting unnecessary pressure on myself.

I had to remind myself that I was in charge of my thoughts and I could change them if those thoughts were no longer serving me.

Some useful thoughts that I like to consider whenever I am thinking I am not exactly where I want to be in my life are these:

  • What if I am exactly where I need to be in my life right now?
  • What if the struggles I am going through now are giving me strength to face challenges further down the road?
  • I don’t need to compare myself to anyone else. I have my own journey to take and it will look different from other people’s journey.
  • I have something special to offer the world and I WILL find a way to succeed at my goals.
  • I need to sow the seeds and be patient before I reap the rewards.
  • I don’t know exactly when it will happen but I have faith and trust in myself so I know it eventually will.

And so is how I was able to change that feeling of impatience I was experiencing about some of my goals back to a feeling of faith and trust in my life and abilities.

Sometimes things will happen sooner than you expected and sometimes they will take longer and that is okay.

We need to remind ourselves that some things take time to achieve.

Like weight loss for example.

More likely than not you didn’t take 12 weeks to get yourself in a position where you put on however many kilos so it might take longer than 12 weeks to achieve your goal.

Hurrying or feeling rushed is not a useful thought in our journey.

I can always choose to think things will happen at the right time in my life, as long as I am taking action to achieve this goal.

When you shift your feelings of impatience over to patience, it shows that you have confidence in yourself, that the goal will happen sooner or later, and it doesn’t really matter when because it WILL happen.

Impatience is when we get annoyed that things aren’t happening according to our plan, without acknowledging that sometimes detours and unexpected hurdles may pop up during our plan and we will need to be flexible and adapt to these changes.

We need to have faith that things are happening exactly the way they were supposed to.

Like for me I wasn’t supposed to 100% focus on those blogs this year.

I was supposed to instead start a podcast and create the amazing products and courses that I was inspired to create and be a part of the two masterminds I was blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of.

Logically I know these other things I achieved were the right next step for me to take in my business and I think we need to sometimes acknowledge our accomplishments even if they weren’t the accomplishments you initially set out to achieve.

Despite all the craziness of 2020 I still had a wonderfully productive year but the picture of where I am at right now just looks a little different from what I expected back when the year first started.

And that’s okay.

I think we all can acknowledge that things happened that year that we never expected like the pandemic and sometimes things happen in our life that we don’t expect but it’s our ability to adapt and grow despite the challenges that keeps us moving ahead in life.

We need to be willing to trust the process and have faith in ourselves that things are happening exactly the way they are supposed to in life.

The good stuff, the bad stuff, they are there to serve us and help us grow and become more resilient in life.

So the next time you are feeling impatient and thinking I WANT TO HAVE THIS RIGHT NOW I invite you to be curious about why you are feeling this way.

Really study that thought and work out why the rush?

What would happen if you shifted your thoughts to something more useful such as – it’s okay that I haven’t reached my particular goal as yet but I trust that I will get there in the end.

Or the fact that it is taking its time to come to fruition is a good thing.

There is a reason why it hasn’t happened as yet and that reason is serving me, even though I don’t know how or why just yet.

What if it wasn’t a problem that your goal wasn’t reached on time?

What if the delay is a natural part of your human experience and it is growing in you a sense of compassion for others like your friends and family who also might take longer than expected to achieve their goals?

A delay does not equal defeat.

Defeat only occurs when you decide to give up on a goal, when you decide that you can’t or won’t chase that dream anymore.

One of my favorite movies is Anvil which is a Canadian documentary about the heavy metal band called Anvil who headlined the Super Rock festival held in Japan back in 1984.

The other bands that joined them at this festival included Bon Jovi,  Scorpions, Whitesnake and all of these other bands went on to achieve great success except Anvil.

These guys were talented but had poor management but they never, ever gave up on their dream.

So for the next twenty years they still stayed together, creating music, dreaming big but still unable to reach the sort of success they dreamed of.

But they didn’t ever give up and honestly to see how they finally made it, I think I shed a little tear at the end of the movie because I love how held tight to their dream, even in their fifties, when many other people would have long ago shoved those dreams into the back of their closet and pretended they didn’t really want it anymore or maybe told themselves some sad excuse like “I am too old”, “my time has passed”, “it’s too late” etc.

The truth is it is never too late to dream big and achieve your goals.

It’s a human emotion to feel some impatience but you can counteract that by telling yourself “it’s okay, this is just the part where I feel impatient right now”. “

My impatience doesn’t need to be a problem for me unless I decide it is a problem.”

I can choose to relax and have more faith in myself.

It’s totally normal to want things now but have to wait a bit before you actually achieve this goal.

So that is how I was able to help myself get comfortable with this feeling of impatience.

Rather than beating myself up over not achieving a goal I set back at the beginning of 2020, I chose to think more useful thoughts about the same situation.

I chose to be kind to myself and tell myself the very same things that I would tell my best friend like “of course you didn’t achieve it because it wasn’t supposed to happen yet.”

Look at all the amazing things you achieved instead, things you wouldn’t have even dreamed were possible back in January this year.

You have got this my friend!

You are doing everything well, and life will unfold in a way that serves you best in the long run.

I would also like to add that if you had a business goal that we need to remember that this is only one part of our life and sometimes our personal life will demand more attention from you.

For example maybe during the course of the year a family member might fall ill, you might experience a death in the family, you might experience a massive change in your circumstances.

These are things that we honestly can’t plan for and it’s easy to get frustrated when these unexpected life challenges pop up in your life, whether they are big or small.

I have personally found it easier to cope with these hurdles by expecting the unexpected rather than acting all shocked and surprised when they take place.

I’m like “well of course that thing was going to pop up”.

So allow for the unexpected and trust that it isn’t happening to derail you from the dreams but to test you instead, to see how dedicated you are to chasing your goals, even despite the challenges that come up.

All of the struggles we face are only strengthening our resilience, making us stronger, and growing us in the way that we need to grow in life.

It all comes back to having faith in yourself and your journey, in knowing that what you want now maybe is supposed to happen later.

Accept what is now, don’t fight it, but have faith that better things are coming, that you can survive anything even a delay in achieving your goals because you are made of steel and you will refuse to give up when it comes to chasing your dreams.

Keep going because everything you want will come to you at the most perfect time.

All of your worry and stress will disappear when you choose to have faith instead.

As that famous quote once so wisely said: faith is the bird that feels the light even when the dark is still dark.

As always thank you so much for being with me on this episode.

I love and appreciate you all and can’t wait to catch you in the next episode. xx
