Fear Of Change – 5 Steps To Getting Over Your Fear

Experiencing fear of change? Here are 5 simple steps to help you get over your fears of change (it can be done!)

Let’s talk about change my friend. For some reason we struggle so much with creating change in our life, EVEN WHEN CHANGE IS WHAT WE WANT THE MOST.

We sit there and complain, whine, wish we could embrace change when it is clearly for the better. But then we do nothing with this desire or struggle to even take the first time.

If you yourself are struggling to make a positive change in your life, I want you to know you are not alone.

And it is indeed possible to make and take the first step as long as you are willing to take the time first to pinpoint your fears and know exactly what makes you so apprehensive about change.

The reason we always want this awareness FIRST is because once you understand your fears, you can start tackling them step by step. This awareness will help you create a plan and adapt to change slowly.

So where to begin? Well, here’s the perfect place to start.

Steps to help you overcome your fear of change:

1-Start by identifying your specific fears.

Take a moment to be honest with yourself. What are you really worried will happen when you instigate change in your life?

Are there some negatives that you feel will come to you as a result of the changes that are developing in your life. If so, you need to first identify these worries so that you can start addressing them.

  • Make a list of all the changes you want to make in your life. Go crazy with ideas and be as specific and detailed as possible.

  • For each change, the next question you need to ask yourself is what scares you so much about this potential change. What are the potential risks involved? What could go wrong?

  • Dig in deep and be super honest with yourself. It is absolutely essential to be realistic about your fears and understand that some level of risk will always be involved in any significant change. But that’s okay – even if you can’t control every aspect of your life, you will still somehow always land on your feet.

FEAR OF CHANGE

2 – See change as an opportunity rather than a threat.

I definitely recommend this mindset shift. Consider looking as change as an opportunity rather than a threat. Instead of fixating on the potential downsides of a situation, focus on the positive outcomes that could result from making a change. What good things could also come from this change?

  • Is it true that these changes could lead to new and exciting experiences? Yes! Of course, these changes potentially could improve your life in some way. The change could potentially help you grow and develop as a person.

  • When you step into a new realm, I think it’s important to note that yes, it might feel scary, but think about all the possibilities and opportunities that could result from your decision to embrace change. Your life could change for the better. It MIGHT and THIS COULD BE THE BEST THING EVER FOR YOU!

3 – Take small steps.

If the thought of making a significant change feels super overwhelming, I encourage you to break the process down into smaller, more manageable steps.

  • So, if you want to change your career, start by doing some research. What could you do instead? Look into different industries and job roles that interest you. Once you understand the available options, you can begin moving toward changing your career.

  • Please don’t try to do too much at once aka bite off more than you can chew. You’ll feel more in control of the process and less anxious about the change when you take small steps.

4 – Build a support system.

I personally find going through change can feel even more challenging when you go through it alone. So, create for yourself a solid support system. When you have the support of family and friends, it can make the process a lot easier.

  • Talk to your loved ones about the changes you want to make and ask for their guidance. Be open and honest with them. Say the words I NEED YOUR SUPPORT. If you’re going through a tough time, lean on your loved ones for emotional support when you feel the pull for backup help.

5 – Be patient with yourself.

Finally remember that change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, and therefore patience is essential throughout the process.

Of course, setbacks will appear along the way (this is totally normal!) but avoid letting these setbacks deter you from reaching your goals. They are part of the process!

  • Many people struggle to accept change, even when it is plainly for their benefit. Remind yourself you are making these changes because they will improve your life.

  • However, if you’re working to make a positive change in your life, you must first identify your concerns and understand what makes you fearful of change.

  • Once you know what your concerns and fears are, the next thing to do is to take modest steps and work gradually. Create a network of friends and family to encourage and motivate you.

  • Give yourself time to get used to new changes. Also know it’s okay to work at your own pace and walk to the beat of your own drum.

Fear of change

Once again, I want you to remind yourself that change is normal. We all go through changes in our lives, both big and small. Change is a part of life, but that doesn’t mean it is always easy to deal with.

Assume that if it isn’t, it will still be okay. You will still find a way and means to navigate those changes. And if you’re struggling to overcome your fear of change, these tips can help eliminate or reduce your anxiety about change. Much love,
